Haven't seen one of these for 2017 yet. What are everyone's current favorite pods for the modern aspiring physician who doesn't want to just listen to NEJM and JAMA all day?

[Mine are basically anything Crooked Media produces and The Daily. I'm looking to expand my horizons (especially if anyone knows of any good philosophy pods)]

EDIT: Also, not here to med shame. Feel free to share any medical podcasts you love!

Story collider, dear hank and John, and this American life.

Hey don't poop on JAMA podcasts. How else are we supposed to stay up to date on the new sepsis treatment protocol?

"Radio lab" is prime choice. So is their spin off "more perfect"

Philosophize this - best philosophy podcast I've found
Revisionist history - fun and informative, just like Gladwell's books
More Perfect (Radiolab) - never thought I'd be hooked to supreme court cases
Zero to travel - great tips and advice for travelers
Common sense with Dan Carlin - deep political commentary about us as a society
The Ezra Klein show - policy/healthcare, awesome guests and interviews
Smart drug smarts - nootropics, brain research, supplements
Death, sex and money - insightful stories on people/relationships/money
Coffee break Spanish - for Spanish learners. Also good for reviewing

You should also check out audiobooks. I listen to a TON of podcasts but I also love the depth of actual books.

His healthcare episode was on point! I also love hardcore history, but I wish they kept old episodes on the podcast app. I learned more from his WWI/WWII episodes than I learned in history class lol.

Agreed! Check out his episodes Ghosts of the Ostfront. So intense, and inspired me to read a few more books on the Nazi/Russian side of WWII.

I follow Joe Rogan, Star Talk/ST Allstars, and Sam Harris pretty religiously but also enjoy stuff like Strangers/99% invisible once in a while. nothing to do with medicine, usually.

Gunna check out smart drug smarts. Thanks

Trueeee, I just really like highly produced podcasts...And I worked in public radio...Even now I grind my teeth every once in a while when I listen to podcasts recorded in people's apartments (WHY ARE YOU RECORDING IN A ROOM WITH A TALL CEILING). These are definitely not the only ones I listen to, but they are the ones I'd recommend :)

I also have a hard time getting into banter-y podcasts. I consistently skip the first 10 min of WTF, and it has taken me a long time to really enjoy Pod Save America

I'm loving the Daily so far. It's great for the morning commute.

Edit: The Cracked podcast is pretty good if you like pop culture commentary, and it's pretty silly as well. David Wong has an interesting perspective. On The Media is great if you're into more current events commentary. 2 dope queens if you like comedians and dope queens

If you like some awesome story telling by people from many different walks of life, check out The Moth. It's seriously great.

I second Sawbones...love me some McElroy content

Wait! Wait! Don't Tell Me is probably my favorite NPR podcast. I second Radiolab, and I'm also a big fan of Stuff You Should Know.

I love Nature and Science. (Science more so than Nature because they do a better job of breaking down completed topics).

Another good current events podcast is: "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me," which is super relevant now since healthcare is in the news every day.

Honorable Mentions:
Revisionist History (Not med.-releated, but enlightening nonetheless)
Freakonomics
How I Built This (Entrepreneurship)
Radiolab

Alice isnt Dead from the makers of Welcome to Night Vale

the Bright Sessions for those wanting a clinical slant

drabblecast if you want a mishmash of strange and bizzare stories...

If you lean more liberal, Pod Save America (one of the Crooked Media podcasts) is great! Invisibilia from NPR is another favorite. If you're looking for some laughs, My Brother, My Brother and Me is quite funny.

To Fight burnout these podcasts might show you the light at the end of the tunnel:

Docs Outside the Box Podcast - Ordinary Doctors doing Extraordinary Things
Hippocratic Hustle Podcast- A podcast about women physicians practicing medicine creatively and personal finances
Dr Money Matters- important money topics never taught in med school.
The Happy Doc - This show is about bringing inspirational, creative, successful, and happy health professionals to you. Made by a 4th year med student who recently graduated and is going into psych.

The Partially Examined life- awesome philosophy podcast
74 Seconds- if you're interested in being up to date on current, real time social issues, this one's about the trial about the officer that killed Philando Castile (Facebook live video), which is being deliberated right now
Anything Ted talk/Ted radio hour!

Jocko podcast

Like JRE Podcats as well - god range of interesting guests and Joey Diaz is so funny!

I'm a podcast junkie - I really don't watch much TV/movies, but listen to way too many podcasts. For healthcare info, I really like "Pulse Check" and "The Weeds".

General info from a historical perspective - Dan Carlin's "Common Sense" is excellent. I keep up with science news through the Nature podcast and "Science Friday" by NPR. Radiolab is awesome but not exactly "science" all the time. Most NPR podcasts are great. "Straight Talk, MD" is a nice podcast by Dr. Frank Sweeney (anesthesiologist who is ANGRY at the state of healthcare).

Revisionist History by Malcolm Gladwell

Season 2 starts... tomorrow!
